Family “Sick” Day

Alistair woke up with a sore throat today. We debated the validity of his claim but thought he was sincere enough towarrant staying home, as he was adamant that he had trouble swallowing, and he did look a little pale.

MF needed to hit the office so it was my turn to stay home. It has been a while since I took a family sick day, perhaps only one in the last year – hope it is the last for a while. The last time was the H1N1 virus. It totally nailed Alistair last fall when he quickly had a fever spike and horrible cough, which developed in about 8 hours. By the time I got him to the special H1N1 emergency clinic he was vomiting and looking VERY rough – the Tamiflu anti-viral seemed to save the day. Anyway, I can live with a little bit of a “soft” sick-day today – that was scary last year.

Of course by noon Ali was pretty much bouncing off the walls with all kinds of energy…until I mentioned I could take him to school, at which point the throat became sore again and he needed to “rest”. ;)

We have a ”no TV on sick-day” policy, so by 2:3o pm Ali was bored and said “dad can you please take me to school”. At this point I told him there was only one hour left in the day but since he was feeling better he could race me – I clean the house while he cleans room. He was into it…. for about five minutes, then he needed a little ”rest” again!

Later we walked our new puppy Winston to Fin’s playschool before heading home to cook supper, which I gobbled down upon Mary Frances’ arrival, before heading out to my intern therapy duties. Home now to tuck in the dudes, and looking to squeeze in some work-related reading before hitting the sack.

These are busy times! But how fortunate we are.
