Enjoying a quiet afternoon at home for a change. Here are a few favs from U2.
All three songs show off the legendary emotional intensity of their live shows, as well as the masterful guitar work by Dave “Edge” Evans; and of course the vocals of front-man-extraordinaire Paul Hewson, aka Bono.
In this first one you can just imagine the electricity (and goose bumps) around the 1 min 15 sec mark as one of the greatest intros in rock music starts to reach the crescendo as the band breaks into what is likely their most spectacular live song.
Turn up the volume, and click “full screen” and check out the energy of the crowd as they react to this musical masterpiece. Notice the trademark chime echo delay on the guitars and the tight and tidy drumming, incluing some cool footage from just behind the drum kit looking out to 100, 000 fans.
In this next video some lucky lass gets to have an emotional sing-a-long with Bono. Over 21 million people have watched this video, which says something about the quality of the performance. Lovely footage around the 1:45 mark as the young woman sings along while laying on the stage.
Because this performance is in a hockey arena as opposed to a football stadium the sound is spectacular, and the tone on Edge’s guitar is just incredible.
“New Years Day” is just an all-time fav of mine – I love the bass line and the brilliant guitar work that is interspersed with the tasteful piano – enjoy this classic rocker.
