Considering that he is a convicted felon who has done time in the clink, and considering his usual conservative leanings, (if not fawnings), it is quite interesting to read Conrad Black’s take on the Tories’ poor policy related to our prison system.
A while back I volunteered at the Edmonton prison and saw first hand the wasting and decay that goes on there, so it’s hard to disagree with Lord Crossharbour when he points out the consequences of misguided agenda-driven prison policy here and here – and how the Tories’ heavy-handed and fearful approach ends up costing us more in the long run, and in more ways than one.
As easy as it is to dislike Conrad Black for his stuffy smugness, (not to mention other nefarious elements associated with his past), he certainly has a way with words and you can respect that he seems genuinely concerned with those who have little voice in this grand debate.
