…that is the sound that the federal government is making as it teeters on being brought down this week (or next) - perhaps by votes against the budget, or perhaps by a separate vote of non-confidence.
Nerd Alert! - below are two separate clips on the budget – one is an illustrated look at the process of creating the budget, the other is the sights and sounds on budget day, including some very valid criticism as expressed by Michael Ignatieff starting at 30 seconds and later Jack Layton (who despite his party is the best retail politician in Canada).
As a footnote, I am sure my sister Gillian is quite happy the budget has been released as her hubby Sean works for the Dept of Finance in Ottawa and has been pulling 10-14 hr days for several weeks working on budget details… it will be interesting to see how this plays out. I’m not sure about Sean, but I’m pretty sure the Tories won’t exactly be saddened if this budget doesn’t pass and we head to the polls early this spring.
