Musical Antidote to Headline News – Sister Rosetta Tharpe

Glancing at the headlines in today’s news, one is struck by the number of recent murders or murder trials going on – sometimes you wonder why we decide to focus on these developments as front page new items.

Anyway, recently my uncle Hughie MacLellan sent me a clip of gospel singer/guitar virtuoso Sister Rosetta Tharpe ripping a great guitar solo while leading a choir in an upbeat and uplifting tune. It’s a good antidote to the news today. Check it out – the solo begins at about 1.20.

- You gotta love that she pre-dates rock and roll greats such as Chuck Berry and other pioneers. It’s cute that she even adds a mini “arm-windmill” move during her solo that just may have later inspired The Who’s Pete Townsend :)

You go Sistah!
